Aao Aao

This one is for all my friends who keep "promising" they will pay me a visit..but are too stingy. (Recommended..read again n again till you get the "intended" pun )

Its been almost 7 months in pune now for me. Hmm..i have lived in bhopal for pretty much all my adult life ( this fact is not up for debate..regardless of my childish antics..i am infact an adult)..so this city was a change for me in some respects.

For all my college and school mates..you would agree..its difficult to get over bhopal (don't ask why i used that term). But as my home is there..i do get to visit it say 3-4 times in a year..for others..it has now become.."a nice sleepy place that lets you walk along your own pace". Will talk about bhopal and its charm in some other post.

This one is about Pune. So here are few reasons you have to come to Pune and experience the city atleast once.

1) Yeh hai youngistan meri jaan.
I mean seriously..everywhere you look there are either college students or school students or kids. And it looks like they have come straight out of a hannah montana movie. The guys are in the latest punk rock blah blah tshirts..hair all gelled up and shoes all branded. And the girls look like they have just stepped out from the parlour. I know delhi rules the roost..but you can give pune a second place for having the best looking girls in town..(have you noticed that there is no such thing regarding guys..i mean what do we do??) Even the kids are all cute and cuddly and trendy.
Need i expain ( marathe n pathik pay attention) why this is on the list?

2) Kook Kalakriti
Just grab the pune mirror...and all you will get are exhibitions, recitals, workshops (here the range is mind boggling..you go from origami to choclate making with photography and salsa thrown somewhere in between). There are art galleries, theatres, dance studios and what not.
Toh aayiye..apne andar chipe hue kalakar ko bahar nikalne ke is sunehara avsar ko haanth se jaane na de.

3) Traffic from hell.
It helps you in brushing up your driving skills. You just venture out..its a skill..oh no..more of an art to survive in the jungle. Self preservation tactics can ensure you reach your destination in 1 piece but don't expect such a guarantee for your "preccioussss" ...tohri gaddi. Helmet which is considered an ornamental item in few parts of the country ,here becomes the thin piece of material that separates you from the afterlife (haristyle bigadta hai..par when will gels come in handy?). A freind of mine was pretty upset today as his "preccioussss" took a minor dent. But the consolation he got was..."Aadat ho jayegi". Its no joke..Pune has the highest number of 2 wheelers in the country..koi mazak nahin hai! Bhole bhaale pedestrians like yours truly venture out after a merciful plea to the almighty..surviving each day is like a blessing..cos the bikes, trucks, cars, cows, deadly corporation buses (which defy all the laws of physics and newton's thoeries) come out from left right centre and back. God forbid..i dont wan't to wait for the sky to fall.
Toh aao..chalao..and if you can drive in pune..you can drive in any place on this planet. (Are you listening pathik)

4) Khae jao khae jao
Umm...ok..i have had better food in bhopal(especially the chaat..yahan pe woh baat nahin)..but the fact remains i really havent explored the city as a foodie. There are n number of restaurants and the good part living in a metro is that you get continental, italian, german bulgarian specializing joints also( Ok i did "cook" up the bulagrian bit.havent searched it though). But they are there for a reason. Puneites eat out a lot. Weekday, weekend, subah, shaam snacks dinner ...whatever may be the situation..chances are you will have to wait for atleast 20 mins to get a seat.So don't be surprised if my retirement plan reads.."Open a restaurant in Pune" cos it will run and run fast. The food has an amazing variety and 9 out of 10 times a good ambience will greet you. But be ready with a thread and needle..cos it surely will leave a hole in your pocket.
Toh if you fancy a fancy dinner in a fancy place...pune is fantastic.

5) Baazar Bahaar
( I can imagine you cringing your nose at the title..par chalta hai)
Bhopal doesn't have any multiplexes or malls..( I am definitely not complaining..I love the city just the way it is). Pune has them all..you get famous brands, famous stores..sab kuch famous. But one striking aspect of the city is its old world feel. Pune is a historic city ( Wiki for more details) and even if you go to big posh market..just venture into the gullies..and you will find beautiful "purane types" homes. There are apartments..but the bunglows right in between the markets or Roads to be more specific ( here the main markets are..J.M road, Luxmi road, FC road, Tilak road, MG road) and they transport you to an era bygone. But dont even think about property in pune Main city( I live on the outskirts). The prices are such that only Birla Ambani and ilk can take one khushi khushi. Many people buy..but its not khushi khushi i believe.
Toh...girls..come for shopping..and guys come for the girls who come for shopping.

Phew..am tired...bahut hua..itni hi hai list. Wait..one major reason to come to pune toh reh hi gaya..
Me. :)

  1. Well, I wish I never drive a two wheeler in pune, it's hell down there ;)
Secondly,I have already graced the city this year once and as of now, looks like that status quo may not change.
Thirdly, about girls, me and marathe would like some pics before giving consent.
